Timber frame chosen for green hotel
Published: 04 February, 2010
Timber frame will be used for Whitbread’s second green hotel and low-carbon restaurant in Burgess Hill, Sussex. The company said the construction would be from sustainably sourced wood, but could not yet confirm the suppliers. “Timber frame has the lowest carbon content of any commercially-available building material and its flexible design allows for high levels of insulation to achieve maximum energy efficiency,” it said. The 60-bedroom Premier Inn, due to open in the autumn, will adopt green technologies trialled at its first eco hotel in Tamworth – at the time hailed as the UK’s first eco-budget hotel. Eco features include a ground-source heat pump, rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling, low-flow showerheads, heat recovery and sun pipes. Whitbread is targeting 70% carbon and 60% water savings in the development. Related articles: |
