DTE's SIRS proves gem for Opal Homes
Published: 14 July, 2008
House builder Opal Homes is using DTE's SIRS system to save valuable build time on a range of projects
Truss manufacturer Donaldson Timber Engineering is proving the benefits of its Structural Insulated Roofing System (SIRS) in partnership with Dalkeith-based Opal Homes at its sites in Anstruther, Fife and Heriot in the Scottish Borders.
At Anstruther, DTE demonstrated the effectiveness of its SIRS system by saving valuable build time, enabling Opal to erect three roofs and six dormer windows in just one day.
Anthony Jones, construction director of Opal Homes said: “We found SIRS to be extremely efficient, saving us not just hours, but whole days of build time.”
At Heriot, an Opal development of seven traditionally-styled properties with heavy slate roofs, DTE says SIRS proved that a modern method of construction can be used to create a typical vernacular roof more efficiently.
DTE Buckhaven general manager, Michael Donaldson explained: "The design of the SIRS system is predicated on the idea of 'making things easier' for the builder, something we proved on both Opal Homes’ sites.”
SIRS incorporates SIPS panels, roof trusses and cassette floors and excludes purlins. The system incorporates BBA components and PEFC timber and is TRADA and NHBC approved.
