Super E strengthens green credentials
Published:  20 May, 2008

Super E has updated its standards

With the Government’s Code for Sustainable Homes and Eco Homes now in place, Super E has put a number of new measures in place to ensure it meets the new standard

Super E, the Government of Canada's eco housing system, is beefing up its green credentials to match new requirements set by the UK Government for the Code for Sustainable Homes and Eco Homes.
The CSH came into force on May 1 this year although Super E has been preparing for the changeover for some time and began making changes when the new Eco Homes requirements came in.
Some notable changes to the Super E system include the expansion of the scope to include low-rise flats (apartments); an increase in U-value requirements for roofs, walls, floors windows, doors and rooflights to reduce energy use and carbon emissions; and an increase in the required number of indoor air quality measures from three to four and environmental features from two to three.
Jeff Culp, from Super E office, said: "Since the introduction of Super E to the UK in 2001, there has been a major shift in the market driven in large measure by regulatory changes that favour much higher levels of energy efficiency and reductions in carbon emissions.
“In response to this Super E is always updating its standards to ensure that Super E homes remain cost-effective but are still a step ahead of new, more stringent UK building relations."
