Timber adds appeal to Rotherham development
Published:  25 February, 2008

Timber frame has added to the architectural appeal

Chandos Timber Engineering is helping Kingbury Homes enhance the aesthetic appeal of an 18-home development in Rotherham with timber frame

Rochdale based timber frame specialist Chandos Timber Engineering is undertaking a project in conjunction with Kingsbury Homes to provide 18 new homes aimed at first time buyers in the Rotherham area.

Chandos is providing the timber frame for the development in Dinnington, Rotherham, and is already on site. The two bedroom apartments, which will be in three blocks of six, are being built in place of a derelict nightclub which had become an eyesore and a point of complaint for many neighbours.

Selina Tite, area sales manager of Chandos, commented: “Architectural appeal is one of the aspects that Kingsbury Homes prides itself on and as timber is such a versatile product to work with it’s really suited to this sort of development.”

John Clark, director of Kingsbury Homes, added: “By using timber frame we have been able to create an innovative and environmentally friendly project in Dinnington. The ability to construct the frames offsite has meant a significant reduction in build time and therefore internal work will be able to start much quicker than we would have anticipated with a masonry build.

“The location is ideal for those who commute to Sheffield, Worksop, Doncaster or Rotherham and is within easy reach of the popular retail centre Meadowhall. The homes are particularly aimed at first time buyers who don’t want to pay the inflated house prices of the surrounding towns and cities, but want to be within short driving distance of the city.”
