BSW Timber, which markets Accoya modified wood, is hoping to reach new audiences when the material debuts on television this week
Modified wood brand Accoya is to be showcased on More4's groundbreaking new series "Grand Designs Trade Secrets" this week.
The manufacturing process and its application on eight new workshops at the Woodland Enterprise Centre at Flimwell, East Sussex, will be highlighted in the TV series on Wednesday (February 13th).
Accoya's starring role is seen as another vote of confidence in the material, which is attracting major interest since the full working stock for joinery, civil and cladding applications was introduced to the UK in June.
Steven Johnson of The Architectural Ensemble, the architects behind the Woodland Enterprise Centre project on the East Sussex and Kent border near Tunbridge Wells, chose Accoya for the windows and doors due to its outstanding durability and performance.
The eight modern timber framed workshops all incorporate environmentally friendly sustainable building materials including an innovative green timber frame and rain screen cladding.
John Alexander, head of business development at BSW Timber, says featuring Accoya on Grand Designs represents a great opportunity to inform end users of the material's potential.
"Grand Designs: Trade Secrets offers viewers an opportunity to get deep under the skin of innovative products so it is entirely fitting that Accoya is to feature on the show," he said.
"Accoya is the culmination of four years of extensive engineering, product testing field testing and market review by leading scientists whose aim was to create a more robust and sustainable material."
He added: "The market development and joinery manufacturers' reaction has been very positive and the Grand Designs show will widen the knowledge of this revolutionary modified wood."
